The Kirambo washing station was build in 2008 in the district of Nyamasheke. The land it sits on runs down the the edge of the stunning and huge Lake Kivu that sits between Rwanda and the DRC.
Here the local farmers, whose average farm size is only about one hectare, bring their ripe coffee cherries to the washing station where they are processed. This natural coffee is spread out on raised drying beds in a layer about 2cm thick for up to 30 days. During this time the coffee is turned hourly and covered at night.
This coffee shines with refreshing blackberry notes with a lovely cola flavour coming through, all held up with a delicious sweetness that reminded us of toffee.
If curious this coffee is named after a fake yoga pose that was made up when the yoga adverse staff were joking with the yoga fanatic staff!
