The Gedeb region of Ethiopia is famed for its incredible coffees. This coffee comes from the local farmers to the washing station in Lalesa, owned by Ephtah.
Here, the coffee is grown under the shade from Ensete trees, which are also known as false banana trees. Once picked, the farmers sell the ripe coffee cherries to the Ephtah washing station. Ephtah is focused on building long term, sustainable relationships with all the farmers. One way they do this is an initial payment to the farmers as soon as their cherries are delivered.
For this red honey lot, the cherries are placed on drying beds for a day before being pulped. After pulping the coffee is dried under shade for around 20 days.
This coffee was a new experience for us. We have never tasted a coffee like this before and it really got us excited. Massive sweet hits of strawberry and sour cherry start the cup, all supported with a dark chocolate note and a lovely orange acidity. An absolute banger!
