The Worka Wuri washing station lies just outside Gedeb town, in the Gedeo zone in the South of Ethiopia. This is in the very famous coffee producing region of Yirgacheffe.
Some 650 local farmers bring their ripe coffee cherries to the washing station where they are processed. These are indigenous 'heirloom' varieties that grow wild in Ethiopia.
At the mill they are carefully sorted and depulped before being fermented for 36-48 hours. After being thoroughly washed, they are laid out to dry on raised beds for around 15 days with the coffee being covered during the hot midday sun and at night to protect it from rainfall and moisture.
Soft orange notes that remind us of mandarins and a lovely apricot like note are the first things that come from this coffee. A delicate green tea like finish follows giving a well rounded, delicious, classic Yirgacheffe washed coffee.
