This is one of a pair of coffees we are releasing simultaneously from the Aquiares estate in central Costa Rica.
The Aquiares Estate is the biggest coffee farm in Costa Rica. Often referred to as the 'Aquiares Estate and community', it is home to 1800 people. It was founded by Alfonso Robelo, a politician, who fled from Nicaragua when war broke out as politics soured in the 1980s. He transformed the way the farm ran, giving the workers chance to buy their homes and to be proud with the coffee they produced.
This coffee is a very rare hybrid variety that was created by crossing Sarchimor and a wild Ethiopian variety. The Aquiares farm is one of the only farms to produce this variety on a commercial scale but once the farmer has mastered the plants' complex nutritional needs, the plant is very high yielding, and the coffee tastes amazing!
This coffee is a delectable, clean, cocoa-forward coffee. The sweetness reminded us of butter sweets and the acidity of orange. An all round winner!
