Do you have an Apothecary habit with a running problem? Then we have something for you.

On the afternoon of Saturday 28th September we are having a fun run between our two cafes. There's the option to either go one way or take it up a a notch and go both ways. Both will end at our Ellon cafe that will stay open till 10pm for you to celebrate your achievement.

Since the new path just by our Udny cafe opened, there is the perfect off-road running route of just over 9km between our two cafes..... so let's do it! This run is purely for fun with no timing and no beans given for how fast or slow you do it, just how big your smile is!

Depending on how bonkers you are (or maybe if you can't work out cars!) there are two options.

Single espresso
Start at our Udny cafe and head to our Ellon cafe! Start time in Udny is between 4pm and 4:30pm.

Double espresso
Start at our Ellon cafe and make your way to our Udny cafe. There you will be greeted with a sweaty high five, given a shot of espresso and sent on your way back to Ellon.

Please only enter the double if you can comfortably run 20km (about a half marathon) . You don't have to be fast at all but should be ok running that distance. Start time in Ellon is between 4pm and 4:30pm. We can look after any bags you would like to leave at the Ellon cafe while you run.

Route
Described from the Udny end

From the Udny cafe the route goes up the pavement along the side of the B9000 (the Newburgh road) until you get to Wood Recycleability. From there, you go along the new path, which leads you to a very quiet country road, which you turn left on and go down until you join the old railway line - the Formartine and Buchan way. Turn left on the line and head to Ellon!

Carefully cross the road at the start of Ellon near the ToolDen sign and continue your way along the railway line over the bridge in Ellon. At the end of the bridge, descend the steps on your right to the riverside walk. Head along beside the river until just past the Church of Scotland. Turn left and head up to The Square, cross the zebra crossing, waving your arms in the air as you have made it!

You can see it on a map here.

On the day
The single espresso runners will check-in at the Udny cafe between 3:30pm and 4pm, to leave the cafe between 4pm and 4:30pm.

The double espresso runners will check-in at the Ellon cafe between 3:30pm and 4 pm to leave the cafe between 4pm and 4:30pm.

It is imagined the double espresso runners will be moving at a slightly faster pace on average so you can high five each other as you pass and share some encouragement. This will also mean neither cafe gets over crowded with registration and runners of both distances at the same time. It also might stagger the end a little bit so the Ellon cafe can cope getting all the celebratory drinks poured not all at the same time!

The glorious finish line is at the Ellon cafe that will remain open till 10 pm with the usual selection of draft beers, wines, cocktails, meals, cakes, coffees etc to sit in or take away.

Entry fee
Entry is £12, of which £2 goes to the Udny Paths Group who worked so hard to get this path up to the railway line, and many others in the area, usable.

Each runner will get a prize at the end of a wee bag of coffee and a medal made by the awesome Bonnyton Potter

The boring but necessary bits
- the run is totally for fun and no responsibility is taken for you taking it too seriously.
- You are on your own once you leave either cafe. Every effort will be made to help anyone struggling or injured but it is your responsibility to find the way and look after yourself.
- you will be required to sign a disclaimer when you check into the run on the day.
- taking part in the run does not guarantee you a table for food or drinks afterwards in Ellon. Please drop the cafe a line to book yourself in for some tasty treats!
- toilets are available at both cafes.
- tickets are non-refundable from the 20th of September onwards.
